KNOWING WHEN TO WALK AWAY AFTER AN AFFAIR
AFTER AN AFFAIR
you may be faced with a decision to stay or walk away. This is a difficult stage of indecision, trying to figure out what to do. Knowing when to walk away after infidelity is something that betrayed partners may experience. It’s important to do what feels right for you. Never allow others to persuade you or make a decision for you because ultimately it’s your happiness and your choice.
Here are a few things to consider if you reach this point in your relationship:
YOUR PARTNER WILL NOT APOLOGIZE FOR THEIR INDISCRETION.
When a partner is unfaithful and refuses to be accountable, this can be a sign of underlying issues that need to be resolved. While some individuals may struggle with apologizing as they may perceive it as a sign of weakness, it is important to recognize that without accountability, rebuilding trust will be almost impossible. Additionally, as a human being it is important for growth to improve in areas where you have fallen short. It is a sign of strength for anyone to be accountable for decisions they make that negatively impact others.
YOUR PARTNER FEELS THAT ONE APOLOGY SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM.
Some individuals feel that a one and done apology is enough. Apologizing is a good place to start, but alone this doesn’t fix the problem.
YOUR PARTNER REFUSES TO GET COUNSELING OR DISCUSS WHAT HAPPENED.
Communication is important in any relationship, but especially after an affair. While it is important to talk things through before reaching the point of infidelity, it’s crucial after. Effective communication is necessary even if the couples no longer wishes to remain together. A partner that is not open to discussion could be mistaken as one that doesn’t care about the relationship or the other person.
YOU HAVE NO DESIRE TO PUT IN THE WORK OR TRY TO WORK THINGS OUT.
If you’ve been cheated on and are emotionally or mentally drained, it may be an indication that you should walk away. If you have no desire to talk with your partner, attend counseling, or even accept their apology, it may be a sign that you’ve had enough or are no longer interested in pursing the relationship.
PEOPLE THAT YOU VALUE MOST IN LIFE ARE ENCOURAGING YOU TO WALK AWAY.
After an affair, people that care about you most may encourage you to walk away. Keep in mind that these are people that care about your mental and emotional well-being. They know your worth and work hard to help you realize it. While you shouldn’t allow others to influence your final decision, you should consider the thoughts and concerns of those who have your back.
